I never would have known about the emergency unfolding outside.

On the evening of March 17, 2024 I had been matched with Metta (my second Hearing Dog Guide) just 8 months prior. That night I was very tired and had been snoozing on the couch without my cochlear implants on, rendering me totally deaf. Little did I know, the house next door was on fire. Without my cochlear implants, I was totally unaware of the sounds going on outside, and with the blinds closed I couldn’t see the commotion either. My neighbour urgently came to the door to let me know to get out of the house, and thanks to Metta (my LFCDG hearing dog) I became aware of the issue outside and was able to evacuate both her and I safely. While my house was never damaged (thankfully!), I think of the severity of what could have happened, had Metta not been with me to make me aware of the emergency outside. Metta remained calm the entire time despite multiple fire trucks, flames, smoke and surely lots of noise. Metta is my second hearing dog from LFCDG and I appreciate the safety they have each provided in my life since 2011.
