In Memory of Robert Stanley

The 2026 Ride for Dog Guides, proudly presented by the Green Capes Trust Foundation, is dedicated to the memory of Robert Stanley.

Robert was more than a participant in the Ride for Dog Guides—he was a passionate ambassador for the mission of Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides and a champion for the people whose lives are transformed through the partnership of a Dog Guide.

Since joining the Ride in 2016, Robert became one of the event's most dedicated fundraisers, raising more than $127,000 in support of Dog Guides. He understood the life-changing impact these remarkable dogs have on Canadians from coast to coast and was proud to play a role in ensuring more individuals could receive a Dog Guide at no cost.

Robert often spoke about the people he met through the program - the recipients whose lives were changed by their Dog Guides, the volunteers who dedicated countless hours to the cause, and the staff who made the mission possible. He believed deeply in the work of Dog Guides and inspired others through his generosity, leadership, and unwavering commitment.

One story Robert frequently shared was of a young man with autism and his Dog Guide, Stanley. Over the years, he witnessed firsthand the confidence, independence, and quality of life that partnership created. For Robert, stories like these were the reason he returned year after year.

This year, as riders gather from across the GTA, we ride not only in support of Dog Guides, but also in honour of a man who embodied the spirit of service, compassion, and community. Robert's legacy lives on through every kilometer ridden, every dollar raised, and every life changed.

Thank you, Robert, for your friendship, your dedication, and your extraordinary support of Dog Guides. You will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever part of the Ride for Dog Guides family.

Ride On, Robert.
